The Oobleckian Monster

"Cap'n! Did ya hear the news?! I heard that someone has discovered a new planet! They say that it's located only 10,000 miles away from our space station, orbiting one of Gildor's 3 moons!" said a young man.

"Well that is very interesting news young chap. But unfortunately I have already heard about this new planet. As a matter of fact, I'm actually planned to go explore it next week Tuesday."

With this being heard, Captain Stu Harding's witty and loyal companion, Jenkins, sauntered across the room and sat down.

"The bad news is that one of our most prized and expensive satellites crash landed on the planet. And you and I have been ordered to retrieve it!"

"Is that so... Well in that case we'll have to gather a fellowship to go and get this satellite."

The captain of the party, Stu Harding is a wise yet slow person who is a great leader. His second hand man, or assistant; Jenkins is very quick and witty. Now let me introduce to you his partners on his journey. Captain Stu's best friend from 7th grade, Mike Nujin is the all-around worker guy. He can do everything from piloting a spaceship to taking out the rubbish. And he can do it all in the blink of an eye. Together they set out on a journey to an unknown planet. The horrible, GREEN planet, OOBLECK!!!

The ship's engines roared.

"9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF!"

"VROOM!!!"

They were off. The spaceship launched into the air. The engines were roaring! The spaceship was sailing through the air. Then, 'poof' it vanished!

"Oh my gosh! The spaceship just vanished, just like...THAT!" said an onlooker named Nike Mujin.

"Man what happened?" asked Stu. "I just woke up and I found us up here in space. And what's that?! LOOK! It's the giant green planet! Oobleck!"

"Calm down sir, don't get too stressed out. While you were knocked out, Mike and I have located the vacinity of the satellite. It's right there." Jenkins pointed to a small part of the map.

"Jenkins, isn't that where we picked up those unidentifiable phesis samples?" captain Stu asked.

"Why, as a matter of fact it is! Sir while we're there we can save the satellite and we can find a new species of animal! Or whatever you call these, things out here in space."

"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!"

"Sir! We're entering the atmosphere! We have to decrease our speed or we'll burn up!"

Mike suddenly appeared.

"Don't worry guys I got it all covered. I installed an automatic pilot so we're being guided by experts' back at the space station."

With the engines roaring the spaceship broke through the thick yellow clouds. The engines abruptly cut their power and went off. The top of the spaceship popped off and a large red white and blue parachute opened up. Surprisingly the ship gently settled onto the oobleck.

Captain Stu sighed with relief; "Well at least we had a great landing."

Within seconds of saying that, they heard a rapping on the outside hull of the spaceship. Someone, or something was trying to get in!

"Captain! There's something trying to get in! We better check what it is. It sounds like it's screwing with our engines!"

With that they opened the safety hatch. Hunched over one of the engines was a large green animal with skinny arms and legs. Its figure resembled one of a human. It slowly turned around. It had big bubbly green eyes. Once it caught a glimpse of the 3 space men, it snatched a piece of the engine and scrambled away off the ship.

"Look that thing took a part of spaceship! We'll never be able to get off this planet until we get that piece! Hurry lets follow him. Hopefully we'll catch him by surprise. We gotta be careful because we have no idea about what lives on this planet."

Carefully watching the alien's every move, they slowly moved farther from their ship. The alien moved very slowly but it was sure footed. Captain Stu, Jenkins and Mike all kept stepping in puddles of oobleck. They were just about to give up and turn back when they stood face to face with a huge cave. The mouth of the cave was huge and shaped like a mouth with huge fangs and it even had a tongue!

"Men, it looks like we're going to have to venture into this dreadful cave. But, I want you to know that I'll try my best to get us out of here, even if it means risking my own life to do it."

Without making a second thought, they jogged into the cave. A beep came out of the darkest deepest part of the cave.

"Did you guys here that? I think that was the satellite! That alien must have somehow got our satellite! All we need to do now is get our engine piece back and the satellite is right here!" yelled Jenkins.

With that being said, a creature jumped out from behind a rock and hissed. It had a small dagger in its hand. The alien lunged at captain Stu but missed by a fraction of an inch. Captain Stu screamed, "JUDO CHOP!" and knocked the alien flat on its back.

It hissed, "If you want this piece back, you'll have to answer these 2 riddles correctly. First, what at dawn walks on 4 legs, at noon walks on 2 legs and at dusk hobbles on 3 legs?"

"Well of course we all know that one. I read The Hobbit! It's a human, because in the beginning of its life it crawls on it's hands and knees. When it's a man, it walks upright on its two legs and when it gets older, it uses a cane to help itself walk upright."

"Hmmm. Well it seems you got that one right, but the next one won't be as easy. How many grams are in a kilo gram?"

"Uh, was that your 2nd question? Because this seems was too easy... Anyways my answer is that there are 1,000 grams in a kilo gram." Said captain Stu.

"AHHH! How did you know that?! I thought that you humans didn't know your metric system!" Screamed the monster.

"Actually no, that's only the Americans." Stu said slyly.

"As I promised you can have your engine piece back. Can I ask you guys a question? Do you know where this huge piece of junk came from? It just fell out of the sky and landed in my yard! I'll gladly give it to you guys if you want it because I have no use for it at all! It fell on my beautiful rose bushes…"

"Hey man thanks! I mean this is the reason why we came to this planet! We were sent here to come and retrieve this satellite. We were sent on a mission to come retrieve it."

"Well, thanks for all you help. We really appreciate it. Maybe one day you can come down to visit our space station. Its address is 45-604 Milky Way Drive."

The alien typed in some numbers on a gigantic machine. The machine opened up a warp and the alien calmly motioned for Stu, Jenkins and Mike to step through it. Nervously they marched. Step by step they inched towards the warp. Stepping through, they were instantly teleported back to their space station. They were in the arrival hangar and their spaceship and the satellite were right next to them!

They one by one looked out of the window. They gazed at the green planet now a speck in the distance and left. But, while they were looking out the window, they didn't hear the faint knocking coming from the inside door of their spaceship…
