Escape from Oobleck
This is the year 2200 when the U.S.
discovered planet Oobleck. This planet was named
after its ocean because it was made of a weird
green substance. Earlier the U.S. sent a team of
astronaughts to explore the planet. Now they are
nearly there.
Inside the ship the skinner crew waited for
the landing. Three of them were in the main living
room and the rest were in the kitchen. "I'm board,"
exclaimed the anxious navigator, Jason. Jason was
usually happy and he is a small and competitive
man. It was a shock to Tank and Tina that he said
that. They were all playing a fighting game on the
big screen tv. Jason was winning all of the time
and finally lost a match. This shocked them even
more. They actually started to get a little
worried. So, Tank asked if he was alright. Just to
be the funny man that he was he ran to the kitchen
and came back with a thermometer and stuck it
straight into Jason's mouth. Jason spit it out as
soon as he could and they had a good laugh. Nickie
came in and she asked what was so funny. They told
her and she laughed to herself because she knew how
he felt. She told all of them to go eat. Out of the
kitchen came Bruce. He was the buffest guy there
and he loved to cook. He was also very kind. He
came out with a plate full of ribs and pizza. They
enjoyed their meal while listening to Lukes plan.
Luke was their respected captain. He was liked
because he thought ahead and made plans with
caution. He told them that they would land on the
ocean and drive to the main land of Oobleck. One by
one they fell asleep to get ready for the next
day.
Everyone was up and ready early in the
morning to get ready for the landing. They ate
their breakfast and changed into their exploration
suits. Everyone was ready and they could land ahead
of schedule which made Luke really happy.
"I'm proud of all of you," announced Luke,
"for making it here and for being a part of my
crew. All I Have to say is let's go." They were off
at his word they were off with Tina at the helm.
She was a good but crazy driver. She liked to do
many risky moves. They came into the atmosphere
with blazing speed. The outside of their ship
glowed with red fury. They could faintly hear the
sound of the sizzling heat. The side engines turned
and blasted at full power to slow them down. They
now had the still green ocean in sight. The wooden
landing gear came out and they were all tensed and
ready to land. They counted down to the impact.
Jason called, "5, 4, 3, 2, 1," They had a hard
landing. They hit the ocean and bounced up. They
bounced a few more times and then they skimmed to a
stop. They checked their ship's status and
everything was as it was supposed to be. Everything
was great and they were all proud of themselves.
Nickie was wondering about the landing because
something about it was strange.
Nickie asked, "Did that landing seem weird to
you guys?" Everybody looked at each other trying to
recall the landing.
Tank spoke and said, "Eh, that did seem
strange because we bounced," Nickie went outside
and punched the ocean a few times. She came back
and told everybody about the discovery she
made.
"When force is applied to the ocean it becomes a
solid and then it becomes a liquid if no other
force is applied. Jason worked on the computer and
calculated that they were near the planet's jungle.
Jason also scanned the area. Everything was fine
except for a couple of weird shapes in the ocean.
Jason thought it was nothing so he left the
computer. Tank went into the cargo hold and
prepared the hover jets for the exploration. These
were hover bikes with jet motors. Tank loved his
work and he liked to help out as much as he could.
Luke checked the area and reviewed his plan to the
rest of the crew. They all understood and raced to
the cargo hold. The back door of the ship open and
they were off on an exciting race. Tina was in the
front with a huge smile on her face. Tank was close
behind and he had a little surprise for Tina. He
flicked a switch and pressed a little red button
that sent him flying past Tina. The rest of the
crew that was in the back started to go up and down
waves. These waves were getting bigger and bigger.
Suddenly this huge creature came out of the ocean.
It looked like a skinny snake with spikes coming
out of its back. It lifted Nickie and she went
flying. She landed in Luke's bike. They spread out
and hoped to confuse the creature but three more
popped out of the ocean. they heard yelling and saw
a small group of aliens with whips and bows and
arrows. They shot the creatures and scared them
off. The group of aliens were thanked by the
skinner crew and they talked about the problems
they had. They were stranded there for a few weeks
and they were being attacked by another alien group
called the taguars. They told the skinner crew that
they were called the orlongs. The leader of the
group was Gordon.
"What were those things" asked Luke. The
skinner crew were all all a bit shaken up.
"Those were grinders," said Gordon, "they are
dangerous fishes that eat anything they can get."
When Luke thought about the taguars he decided to
explore for only an hour. They went into the forest
and discovered a lot of alien species. After the
hour they all went to the orlongs camp. When they
got there everything was a mess. There was clothes
all over the place. Tank was looking out and he saw
the taguars approaching. Luke was looking at the
camp site and noticed a satelight. He was informed
about the approaching aliens and told Jason to get
all of the information from the satelight. The rest
of the group got their hover bikes ready and
strapped in the orlongs. Jason finished and they
all were off at the yell of Luke. They were making
a good lead but the taguars were coming back with
hover cars. They were shooting at the skinner crew
and they shot back. Tank and Bruce grabbed on board
axes and chopped down a few trees to slow down the
taguars. It only partially worked but the taguars
still were coming. The skinner crew got back to the
ship and they all boarded. The taguars thought they
could get them until the graders stopped them where
they were at. They took off and they were finally
safe. The orlongs thanked the skinner crew. The
skinner crew gave the orlongs a proper
transportation vehicle and they were on their way
home. Our crew also were on their way home waiting
to tell us their adventurous story.
