Signals From Planet Oobleck

Has anyone noticed planet Oobleck? If they have has there been any sign of life? Or only until now? Twenty two days from their next trip to Mercury and all six cadets (Rachel, Bransen, Fara, Ian, Leiohu, and Kaipo) are preparing intensely so that their next mission will be successful.

Suddenly Fara heard a beeping sound. At first she didnít know what the sound was. She spun around millions of times until she figured out that the sound was coming from the radar machine. To the left of the radar screen was a map showing that the signal was coming from a distant planet called Oobleck. "Hurry everyone, there has been a signal!", Fara shouted. In a flash all six crew members were huddled around the radar screen like cold men around a small fire.

The captain (Rachel) ran through the halls to the room and managed to pass the crowd to see what was going on. "How could this happen? I know there couldnít possibly be any intelligent life on planet Oobleck.", Replied Captain Rachel. "In order to find out whatís on that planet we have to go there.", Insisted Bransen. "I agree weíll leave one month from now!", Decided Rachel.

The next couple of weeks were as brutal as ever, as the training became more harsh. The astronauts became more and more tired and their bodies felt as if it were jello, none of them could even get out of bed.

"I canít wait until this whole thing is over", said Ian.

"Finally the night before liftoff!", Said Lei (Leiohu). The whole NASA program was going crazy preparing for the big day they had ahead of them. The entire crew went out for drinks that night to celebrate.

The next day half of the team was pumped and ready to go, the other half was so nervous that they were shaking like leaves.

Soon all the crew members said their good-byes with tears in their eyes. Each one boarded the ship as they took one last look at Earth, as they would be gone for four days, "I hope we find whatís causing that signal", said Bransen.

"3,2,1, Liftoff!", Screamed the whole NASA building as the ship became airborne. I hope that we come back safely! Thought Rachel as they entered Earthís atmosphere. "Twelve hours until we reach planet Oobleck", said Lei, with such excitement. I hope that I will be able to see my father when I come back! Thought Bransen. His father has two broken ribs, a lot of cuts, and bruises. Because of a drunk driver. He also has a very weak heart as he has been through a lot these past three days.

Twelve hours passed and now they landed on planet Oobleck, as they landed Fara and the rest of the crew yelled, "we are here!" The heat from the jets will harden the oobleck just enough until we can float on the oobleck (our ship can float on the oobleck because it is made up of wood, wood can float on any type of liquid), then weíll be able to use our special paddles to move around the liquid until we can find the one who sent the distress signal, and so it was done.

The crew swam around for one day, until they saw a man standing on a big piece of wood. Quickly the crew hurried to get the man inside. The man was dressed in the old space suits that were used in the early 1900ÿs. "My name is Captain Roger Riggs. I have been an astronaut since 1919 and I first came to planet Oobleck on March 23,1920 on a mission to discover the universe." Replied the Captain Riggs. "Thatís impossible, we just left 1 day ago on March 23, 2020." Said Fara.

Just at that moment there was a sudden stop as the whole ship came to a halt, "oh man the engine just stopped!" Said Bransen. "Great what are we going to do now? What will we use for fuel?" asked Ian, as the whole crew was bamboozled by the troubling question. "Well we could use the Oobleck", said Kaipo, "because our engine runs on corn starch. While you were all worried about trying to find the one who sent the signal, I was busy running tests to see what the oobleck is made of. The result is that the oobleck is made of a thick substance similar to cornstarch!"

"Well letís see if we can use the oobleck as fuel", said Bransen. Hours passed slowly. Then hours turned into days as the crew tried to find some way to make a hose that will attach to the ship so that they could suck the oobleck into the fuel tank. After four painstaking days they finally were able to work together and make their way safely home.

When they returned home everyone was so happy to see them and told them that had been gone for 4 years and that they are so happy that theyíre safe. The crew was so very happy to be home that they all retired and lived a wonderful and happy life.

When the crew returned they discovered that Bransenÿs father had made a full recovery and now they live on a beach house in Malibu, California. As for the rest of Team Oobleck, they stayed in Florida (no one knows where) and they havenít heard from NASA scince.

Still no one Knows why the crew came back after 4 years, but only stayed on planet Oobleck for 4 days, still till this day it remains a mystery.
