A Night in Oobleckia

In another galaxy far away, there were two worlds, Humanica and Oobleckia. The two worlds were isolated from each other and neither the humans nor the Oobleckians stepped in each other's territory. But that will change because now the first human will actually set foot in Oobleckia.

"I don't know why we have to patrol the outer-airspace, nothing's going to invade us." Major Chamberlain grumbled to himself. Major Chamberlain Gettis was an Intergalactic Defense Force (IDF) pilot who always wanted to explore the outer limits. "One day, I'm going to go to that planet." He said staring at the neighboring planet Oobleckia.

"Patrol time's up Gettis." ordered Commander Wendall Ericsson, commander of all IDF air units. "Get the ship back to Humanica and rest it on the airfield."

"Yes sir, on my way down." he took his last glance at the green planet and pulled the control stick in the direction of Humanica reluctantly. "HIDF base, requesting permission for landing."

"P-5 grant permission for landing." The radio answered back. P-5 was Chamberlains code name. He flew in the airport airspace and hovered over the landing target as he slowly lowered his jet vertically.

"Touchdown base." he said over the radio. That meant that the ship was safely on the ground. He turned off the power to the ship and pulled himself out of the jet. He stepped out into the blazing sun as the swarms of mechanics encircled the off-duty ship to give its end of mission inspection.

Chamberlain walked into the commander's office and stood at attention in front of him. "Sir! Request permission to speak freely."

"Permission granted." he mumbled while signing some documents.

"Sir, may I ask that we go into Oobleckia and explore the area?"

"No!" the commander yelled as he abruptly stopped writing. "Absolutely not!"

"Why not?" Chamberlain asked startled by the fury of his leader.

"Because it's too dangerous. I've been there before and the natives are fierce, show no mercy, they're racist against others so no!" he said with a big heave of breath. His face was as red as a tomato.

"But-" Chamberlain started to say, but Wendall cut him off.

"No buts about it. The final word is no! Oh yeah, by the way you're on duty again in about five minutes, Captain Greg couldn't make his patrol and don't even think about going to Oobleckia. Dismissed!"

Chamberlain turned quickly and started out the door. His jet was ready for his second patrol today. He said to himself "He's lying to me, no one has ever gone to Oobleckia. He's just holding me back from being the first. I'm going to Oobleckia." He jumped in his jet and strapped in.

"All clear." The radio said. Chamberlain gave the two thumbs up sign and he was given permission for liftoff. He pulled back on his control stick as the jet lifted off the ground. Then he pushed on the lever and his jet warped off into outer space. When he got into outer space he saw Oobleckia, he turned in its direction and said, "Here I go!!"

"P-5, P-5! You're heading out of the patrol airspace! Turn back down to base P-5!" Chamberlain turned off the radio ignoring the command. Then on the screen of his navigational system it read, "Warning! No manual control, gravitational pull too great."

"This is weird, I'm in the atmosphere and as I get closer to the planet, the pull force gets weaker and weaker. The top of the atmosphere has the strongest pull in the whole planet." Chamberlain marveled at his discovery.

Then after being controlled by the pull, the jet reached 5,000 ft above sea level and the gravitational pull was like earth's.

"Manual control enabled." the screen said. Chamberlain grabbed the control stick, but couldn't get the jet back in control.

"Dang the atmosphere pull sent the jet in a dive." The jet was vertically facing into a dive. It raced to the green blob of the Oobleck Ocean at an accelerating speed. Chamberlain put his life vest on knowing what was going to happen. He held on to his seat as the jet dove into the ocean. A big splash shot up. The jet sank for awhile and then spurted up to the shore and floated there. Chamberlain was unconscious and just lay there in his seat like a worn out doll.

Meanwhile at the Oobleckian Army Base, the army caught a signal of a crash land 1,000 miles off of the closest shoreline. They immediately sent out a group to go and investigate the scene.

"Ow!" Chamberlain said as he rubbed his head and regained consciousness.

"P-5, P-5 come in." the radio said.

"This is P-5." Chamberlain replied.

"Thank God you're alive. Look, we need your position to get you out of there. Oobleckians are on their way over to your position. Use your GPS for your position reading.

Chamberlain looked all around the jet and found the GPS floating in the calm green water. "I'm afraid not, the GPS is filled with Oobleck and it's broken down. I'll radio you back when I find a relative position. Over and out."

Chamberlain felt lost and lonely. Not knowing where he was felt like he was never going to get out of the planet.

He sat and sat and waited looking for something to give his position. Then as he looked into the ocean, he saw the water churning. Then a blue fish sprung up from the water splashing Oobleck on Chamberlain.

"Hello. I'm sorry, did I frighten you." the fish spoke.

"Um, hi." Chamberlain said frightened for he had never seen such a talking fish.

"I'm a helping fish. I show up when people are feeling like they have no hope. So let's begin by telling what your problem is." So Chamberlain told the fish of how he had crash landed and how the GPS broke and he needed a relative location for his rescue.

"Wow, that's a pretty big problem you've got there. Let me think of a solution." Then the fish went under the water for a few hours. The sky was turning dark and it was close to night time. Far, far off in the distance he could hear the buzzing jet skis of the Oobleckians.

The fish finally reappeared and said, "I've got a plan. Tell your rescuers to put red flares on their aircraft. I'll be glowing blue under the waters of the Oobleckian Ocean. They can follow me and I'll lead them straight to you."

"That's great, I'll radio in the IDF of our plan. IDF base come in this is P-5."

"This is base P-5." came the reply.

"I've got a plan. Put the aircraft in the Oobleckian airspace. Make them visible in the night by putting red flares on them. There will be a glowing fish in the water who will find your position and he will lead the crew to me." he explained.

"That's a great plan. The aircraft was already sent out and they're on their way. Over and out."

"Thanks helping fish. They're already on their way into the airspace so you better go and start hunting for them." With those words, the fish sped off and went to do his mission. Chamberlain sat down on top of his floating ship and waited and listened to the sound of the ever enclosing sound of the jet skis buzzing.

Chamberlain started to get worried after a while for it was well in the night time and the buzzing was getting louder. "Where the heck are they!" Chamberlain slumped back on top of his craft and stared into the night sky. "I'm never going to get out of here." He saw a red star and then another one coming closer to the crash site, "Could it be?"

"P-5. Come in P-5." a voice said over the radio.

"This is P-5." Chamberlain replied excited.

"Your rescue team is due east of your position coming in fast. I say again, coming in fast. Hold on, boy you're coming home."

"YES!" Chamberlain shouted happily. He jumped for joy and almost lost his balance in doing so.

Not long after those words were spoken, the glowing fish sped by and turned back to Chamberlain's position. "Your squad is right behind me. Come by one day and pay me a visit. See ya!" and the fish submerged into the depths of the water. Chamberlain didn't have a chance to even thank the fish.

Then the calmness of the water was broken as the waters began to lap and ripple. A loud, powerful noise pounded at Chamberlain's ears. Just then, the powerful Nightstalkers flew over his position. A whole fleet of them flew in every direction securing a perimeter so that no enemy hair could touch Chamberlain. A light was shone down on Chamberlain from one of the Nightstalkers hovering above him and a rope with a metal basket at the base was lowered from it. Chamberlain climbed into the basket and then was slowly lifted into the Nightstalker.

When he got into the aircraft, he came eye to eye with Commander Wendall Ericsson. "We're going to have a long talk about following orders soldier." Chamberlain shuddered at those words not wanting any consequence.

BOOM! Down below in the water was the enemy who had opened fire at one of the Nightstalkers. "Open fire. All units open fire!" Wendall ordered. The Nightstalkers obeyed the order and unleashed a night mare beyond night mares. They used the powerful missiles and the drum rolling sound of the gattling guns.

Jet skis exploded like fire works in the night as the Oobleckians fell to their doom in the green sea. "Pull out! All units pull out!" Wendall read over the radio. The Nightstalkers turned in the opposite direction of the battle and sped away. The atmosphere showed no resistance to the Nightstalkers for the aircraft was very powerful.

As the fleet entered outer space the commander said over the radio, "All units report damage status."

"This is N-12, my crafts tail has been hit and I'm shot in the leg, but I think that I can hold it out in till we get home."

"Okay, we're almost there." the commander said assuringly.

The Nightstalkers reached the base and Chamberlain followed his commander into his office scared so bad that he wanted to cry for his mom. "Sit!" the commander said sternly. I don't know what the heck you were thinking, but you are lucky that we found you. Yeah, I know I haven't been there, but I had satellite intel. When I give an order, you follow it whether you like it or not! From now on you follow orders not curiosity! Your consequence is grounding for a month!" the commander finished with fury.

"No flying for a mo-" Chamberlain said shocked.

"Dismissed!" Wendall said. The grounding did shape Chamberlain up because he always followed his orders and never again his curiosity.
