[Story] [Science]

ARE WE GOING TO SURVIVE?

"WE MADE IT!" I cried as I looked at the inside of our spaceship covered with what I had for lunch. I could tell that my friends were grossed out at what they saw by the way they covered their mouths with their eyes a little squinted.

" I'm sorry, the ride was just so bumpy, like a roller coaster. My stomach started to feel queasy and I just couldn't help it!" I apologized to my friends, even though they didn't seem to be paying attention to what I was saying.

"Well, at least we proved the scientists wrong because the Stars and Stripes fuel actually worked. Plus the red and white striped gasses from the fuel were beautiful and the fuel helped us travel as fast as a shooting star so we could get here in less than 48 hours," I said trying to get their minds off of my barf all around the spaceship.

"Man, that fuel sure works because we traveled 289 million miles in less than 48 hours!" replied Kristen.

Everyone was exhausted from the trip and it was around 12:00 so we all decided to go to bed already.

The next day all of us were joyful as we sang Happy Birthday to the ship designer and one of my best friends, Brittany Nagasawa. Brittany is a very important member of our ship. She built the ship with all the materials that we thought were necessary, such as the burning metal plates and the helicopter propellers. Everyone thought that she came on the trip to prove herself better than Jennifer, but I knew that she came because she's my friend. Also I know that Jennifer is another one of her best friends

Kerilyn, Kristen, and Sarah are also very important because they also helped make the fuel and help paint the spaceship. Even though they were just coming so they could be famous and get away from home, they are still important. Although Hoku doesn't seem to be that emotional because she is a ROTC girl, I know and I will prove that she does have a more emotional side even though nobody else thinks so. Hoku came to protect all of us, but she is nice and she is my friend and I just want her to be happy.

All of the crewmembers are my good friends so I know what they are like, but you don't, so I'm going to tell you a little about each character. Well let's see, I already told you about Brittany Nagasawa, so lets talk about Kerilyn Gallagher. Kerilyn or Keri for short is a very smart and athletic person. Even though she is an all around person she wants to become even more known in Hawai'i. She also wants to get away from her annoying little brother.

Now lets move on to Kristen Fujinaga. She is a very shy little girl if you first meet her, but once you get to know her she is really talkative. Kristen came on this trip mainly to become well known across the United States. Kristen was a big help in making this spaceship. She did all of the painting and helped with making the fuel.

Kristen Matsumoto and Sarah Kujubu are two totally different people. Sarah is very talkative and you could say crazy even if you don't know her. She is a very out going person. Sarah didn't do much to make the ship. All she did was help paint the stars on the ship. Sarah came for reasons that nobody else knows about because she never likes to talk about it. Now that you've meet the crewmembers lets go on with our journey into the planet of Oobleck.

"EWWW! Look at that oobleck. I didn't think it was that thick!" replied Brittany.

"Well yeah, why do you think we need these burning metal plates?" Keri replied in a sarcastic, but friendly way.

"We better get started collecting and testing samples if we are going to leave in a week," I said.

"Fine then lets get started," Sarah replied in a grumpy mode.

I could see the oobleck turn into a solid by the burning plates and I decided that it was time to get some samples. As I walked out onto the solid liquid I heard a soft whisper saying, " Get off now get off!" I suddenly got terrified standing there by myself so I decided to go back into the ship and use the back-up suction tube that goes 274 miles below the surface of the oobleck where hopefully the oobleck is not a solid. "If that doesn't work, I'll have to go back out there. Please don't be a solid way down there please!!" I cried in a terrified voice.

''Thank the Lord! It's not a solid down there!" I yelled skipping all around the inside of the spaceship.

With trembling hands I held the suction tube controllers. I slowly started to start to put the suction tube into the oobleck. Then all of a sudden I plunged it into the oobleck and up came the oobleck samples ready for me to start testing on them.

I got the oobleck samples and started tests on them, seeing if they could last on our planet and what it was made out of. I finished the tests with the help of Kristen and we were finally ready to go home when one of the crewmembers called for a meeting. We all decided to stay for a couple of days longer and just relax.

We were all watching television, when we saw a giant snakehead rising just outside the window.

"Aaaaah! It's a snake let's go now! I hate snakes! Hurry up! Lets go now!" I screamed.

Everyone else didn't seem to care until something terrible happened.

BOOM! All the glass shattered around the floor and in came the giant 100-foot long oobleck anaconda. Everyone started screaming and running around like chickens without a head. Everyone except for Hoku who didn't seem to care about the how big, deadly, or how poisonous the snake is. She was just standing there with a look on her face saying I've seen worse.

Then out of the corner of my eye. I saw the most terrible thing about to happen. It was going to eat Hoku. They both disappeared into a cloud of dust, which blocked my vision so I couldn't see. All of a sudden, with my knees trembling, I thought of the worst that could happen. If it ate Hoku, then all of us would surely die because nobody else was strong enough to even have a chance against that snake, all our hard work wouldn't reach earth.

Then out of the cloud of dust came the snakehead and all of us started weeping, like warriors mourning over their lost their leader.

Then out came Hoku carrying the snake. All of us stopped and kept wiping off my tears making sure we were seeing this. We all rushed to her amazed that she killed the snake. All she said in a depressed voice was "Lets go home. We'll talk about on the ride home."

So I said, "Ok, let's go home."

Then I slowly walked over into the control room and stated up the helicopter propellers and started flying towards home.

We all kept on telling Hoku that she was so lucky to be a hero, and that she would be famous, but she kept on saying, "You're the lucky ones. You have a life. All I have is the military." Nobody understood what she meant until we quietly thought about what she had said.

From then on the whole ride was silent. Not one word was spoken, all you could hear was the sound of your breath. All of us sat there in shock because everyone dreamt of being a hero and never thought of all the good things we take advantage of. Then we all tried to think of a way for Hoku to be happy and smile for once in her life. Nothing we suggested to Hoku, like how she should quit the military wasn't good enough. Her father definitely wouldn't allow it because her wants Hoku be independent and not have to depend on a guy. So she just whispered to us, "This was a fun trip, but all I'll ever have is the military, I will never be able to have a regular life like everyone else."

My heart was shattered and tears came to my eyes as I heard these terrible words come out of Hoku's mouth. What made it worse was there was nothing I could to help. What would happen to my dear friend Hoku Denning, nobody is quite sure yet. I hope she'll be all right.
