The Oobleck Challenge
In the year 2075 the president hosted a
guest/challenge for eight(8) lucky teenagers. The
quest was to go off into space, explore, and
research the unknown planet Oobleck. They had to
return within 2 years with everyone and some useful
information about the planet. If they succeed each
teen will receive the prize money of $1
million.
So began the search for those 8 lucky teens.
The president didn't want to be biased so he had
his computer randomly pick names. The choices were
from all the citizens of America between the ages
12 and 16 years. Finally all the names were in
every newspaper in the United States.
The teens are Makanani(13) from Hawaii, who
is controlling the president was scared of telling
her that she couldn't take her dog Lanakila with
her. Casey(15) from Idaho, she's not a risk taker
and is scared to even ride a plane. Patrick(16)
from Maryland, he's a cautious person who thinks
ahead. And Chelsea(12) from New York she is
totally clueless to what's going on.
Joni(14)Alabama, is your perfect innocent angel.
Courtney(15) from California, is a princess and a
pain in the butt. Then there's Jason(13) from
Missouri, who is a liar, thief, insensitive and an
all around bad boy. Garrett(16) from Arizona ,
he's the individual that could care less about
anyone else. And that's the crew and some things
that friends and family said about them. But all
this is about to change.
Getting to the planet wasn't the hard part
because the space ship did the flying and a whole
lot more. One day Courtney said to Chelsea, "I'm
hungry, I want some fries and a root beer float."
Then suddenly out in the kitchen table came from a
small tube, French fries and a root beer float.
And that's how life was on the ride, in the ship to
the planet Oobleck.
When they arrived there they all agreed that
the planet was beautiful. There were luscious
orange/red forests, tall purple mountains, and a
glossy blue sticky Oobleck ocean. And that was the
only thing that they agreed on. As soon as they
stepped outside , problems and questions filled the
air.
Makanani said out loud, "It's beauty before age,
that means that I'm the captain." No one actually
listened to her except Patrick because he didn't
want her to do anything harmful to them. Makanani
gave demands and Patrick tried to do them. And no
one takes Makanani seriously. So she got fed up
one day and she and Patrick when off to explore the
forest and do some research.
Meanwhile, Casey and Garrett are partnered up
to go explore the mountain range and gather some
information. Joni being the thoughtful person put
some things in everyone's back pack for when they
go exploring. There was a compass, flares, water
bottles, first aid kit, batteries, flash light,
walky-talkies, and a pocket laptop to record any
data.
While everyone was out, Chelsea, Jason,
Courtney, and Joni were left to watch over
Lanakila. Then finally the question was asked,
'Where's Makanani and Patrick?'.
"They must be in the forest somewhere and
there probably lost. But good thing they took
their bags, or at least Patrick did," said Joni.
Then Courtney replied, "Yah, but how do we
know there together, they could have lost each
other. And that would mean that someone's out
there without a back pack."
"That could be true but, Patrick's too scared
to go off by himself," Chelsea added.
"To bad it wasn't you that got lost by
yourself," sassed Jason.
"That's just what I expected from an
insensitive jerk like yourself. Got anything else
to say before we send you to the sun?" Chelsea said
as her head jerked from side to side and her eyes
rolled. He got mad so he just went to the kitchen
to get some food.
Then the ship got a call from Makanani, "Help
we're lost in the forest thing! Get us out like,
now!" Joni responded telling them that Courtney
and Chelsea are on the way and for them to send out
a flare so they can find you. But the forest was
too red and the flare just blended in. So they
thought and finally came up with a plan. They
could use Lanakila, after all she is a dog and she
can smell Makanani.
During all the chaos, Jason found a manual
that had Power Shut-down Instructions. And inside
it said that on that day the ship would shut down
as a test, and all the directions were listed.
Knowing that the crew didn't see this manual, he
hid it so that they would suffer for ever insulting
him.
When all this was happening, Casey and
Garrett are told to go and help Makanani and
Patrick. On the way they got lost themselves
because they didn't see the flare or have a dog.
So they used the walky-talky and told Joni to send
the others to find them after they find Makanani
and Patrick. After about 2 hours everyone was
saved and they all returned to the ship.
As soon as everyone was back at the ship
Makanani told them how grateful she was that
someone took control and helped. Now there was a
new problem, the ship shut down. They all panicked
because they didn't know what to do and the only
person that did know wasn't going to help them.
Jason just laughed and watched everyone get all
worked up and stressed over a silly test. Makanani
realized that Jason was laughing and must be hiding
something, so she went over and investigated. He
didn't know that she was right there listening to
what he was muttering to himself and he said a bit
too much.
"This is so perfect their all so stressed trying
to fix the ship but they're doing everything wrong.
Hah, if only they hadn't mocked me I would have
let them read the manual. Hah, hah, hah, hah!"
said Jason amusing himself.
"You hid it somewhere, where is it? Give the
manual to me and I wont tell the others." Makanani
demanded.
"No you guys will still treat me like dirt."
"We wont I promise, we need that manual and your
help, please?"
"Fine, just don't tell anyone I gave it to you,
I have to live up to my name as insensitive." Then
he just smiled at Makanani, they went back into the
control room where everyone was trying to figure
out what went wrong. Makanani comes in and tells
Joni that Jason found the manual and wanted to
help. So Jason became a good guy and turned the
power back on.
Finally everyone was happy, friends, and safe.
Makanani and Jason became good friends and so did
everyone else. They all went into the forest and
did some research, even Lanakila, before they went
home. After 2 weeks of research they decided to
start packing up.
As they said their fare wells to the planet the
ship took off. The ride home wasn't even half as
peaceful as the ride there. Everybody was talking
and stories about themselves trying to get t know
each other. Time flew by so fast that they reached
Earth in what seemed like days. Then the day
finally came when they landed home.
Right after they all got out of the ship
hundreds of people were waiting and taking
pictures. The president greeted them and announced
that they have succeeded in their quest and will
each receive their $1 million. They all learned a
lesson from that trip and they will never forget a
moment of it. They learned how to work together,
trust and respect others, be resourceful, be
prepared, and to care for others. But the greatest
that was learned from this experience is that; 8
teens + strange planet = danger, and 8 teens +
$1million = more danger.
