Rine's
Journey
"Mother where are we going? This doesn't look
like mars!"
"Don't worry Rine, we probably could use a pit
stop"
"I hope so mom, I just want to get there."
"Whoa! What was that!?"
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah I'm fine we must have come across some
turbulence in the atmosphere"
"Ahhhhh! We're falling"
Boom!
"Mom! Mom! Where are you?"
"I'm right here, everything's okay!"
"The crew will probably get the spaceship up and
running as soon as we sort everything out."
What they didn't know was that they wouldn't be
leaving soon, maybe ever.
"Captain Warsaw is everything under
control?'
"Yes fine Lieutenant Nuprin, alert the civilians
that we have just landed on this strange
planet"
"What planet might that be Captain?"
"According to my charts we have landed on the
planet of Oobleck, much like earth except for the
sea, which is made of this most peculiar green
substance." Said Captain Warsaw examining a jar
filled with this "peculiar green substance" Taken
earlier that day
"The planet of what sir, did you say
Oobleck?"
"Yes Lt. I did, now go"
After hearing of this news everybody was
incredibly frightened, but none more than Rine.
"Are we leaving soon mother?"
"I don't know Rine, nobody does"
Rine's face flushed with whiteness as she ambled
to her quarters. Shocked at the news.
How could they have just crash-landed here on
this unknown planet? Why is this happening?
Everybody is in a mess Cringing at the thought
of not making it to Mars as she planned. It was
hard enough leaving Earth with the destination set
on Mars but just crashing here
She needed to get something straight she just
didn't understand Rine called her best friend,
Julius he would know what's going on.
"Julius what is happening?"
"We have landed on a place called Oobleck"
"Are you all right?"
"Yeah, I just can't believe it"
"Don't worry Rine, the ship probably just needs
some minor patchings, we shouldn't be here
long"
"I hope so, I don't think I could handle it"
"Are you sure you're ok?"
"Yes I'm fine Julius, thanks"
Feeling reassured, Rine hung up and lay down to
rest
Waking to the sound of mothers' voice Rine
realized they were still on Oobleck
"Rine! Rine! Dear wake up!"
"Yes mother?"
"Rine I have some bad news!"
"What is it mom. Is everyone ok?'
"Everyone's fine dear but the Captain just
informed me…."
"What mom?"
"Oh Rine the ship can't leave this planet"
"What Why?!"
"Calm down honey the ship needs a part that
can't be delivered until the crew radios back home
but the radio was destroyed in the landing"
Still shocked, Rine assured her mother she was
ok and lay down again to ponder the thought.
This can't be happening I refuse to believe any
of it
So for days Rine walked around merrily
pretending nothing had happened Her mother felt
pity for her in her attempt to ignore the truth and
avoided the subject altogether
Julius, Rines best friend felt pity for her too
for he knew how she could react to something when
she had her mind set on another.
Deep inside of Rine she knew it must be the
truth but maybe if she denied it things would
change.
"Poor Rine she just doesn't know how to cope"
said her mother
"She should start believing in it soon I hope"
replied her father
"I do hope so dear, I hope so"
All around the ship was the feeling of unbelief.
Nobody took it seriously. Just going about their
lives as if nothing had gone wrong
The only one seeing the bright side was Julius.
For that was the person he was He took things easy
just going with the flow the very opposite of his
best friend She never went with something she
didn't want
Rine wasn't a selfish person she was just a
stubborn one. Julius knew that but he couldn't
help feeling sorry for her when she reacted like
this
So the problem is getting her to believe thought
Julius if only she could see, beginning again isn't
as bad as it seems.
Rine is my best friend and I have to help her
get through this
So a newly motivated Julius emerged and set off
on his journey to teach his friend
Back at Rine's house, the feeling of sorrow lay
over everything.
Rine thinking of all the things she lost or
could have had and the anxiety of waiting on this
planet
Sure her mother said they would never leave but
how does she know what if a miracle occurs Rine had
to stay optimistic it was the only thing that kept
her from accepting this place.
Rine refused to just give in and agree to stay
here She didn't want to and wasn't planning on it.
Little did she know that Julius was plotting to
change her mind about just that and so did her
parents.
"Rine?"
"Julius!"
"Yeah um, I just came to talk to you"
"Ok about what?"
"About you"
"Me?!"
"Yeah, the way you're acting"
"What are you talking about Julius?"
"I mean this stubborn pig headed side of you I
don't like it and neither does your parents"
"Excuse me! pig headed"
"I'm sorry I never meant to be mean but you have
to snap out of it."
"You can't deny what's happening for the rest of
your life you have got to face the facts"
"Julius what do you mean?"
"You know what I'm talking about Rine I know
what you're doing and it isn't going to help"
Julius grabbed Rine and shook her with every
word. His anger overwhelming his purpose
Abruptly he stopped and backed away slowly from
the scared and fetal Rine
"I'm sorry I'm so sorry Rine I didn't mean to
get violent"
Julius apologized while sitting down and
putting his shameful face in his hands
"Julius this isn't like you, what's wrong"
Rine questioned peering at his hidden face. She
approached him and sat beside Julius.
Julius sniffed and replied "I just want so much
for you to be happy Rine I can't stand seeing you
like this"
"You know Julius you've really inspired me I can
see it now, maybe this place won't be so bad after
all. I mean everybody and everything I need is
already here. I won't miss out on anything right?
This place is almost like earth"
"Now you see it Rine" and the two friends
embraced
"You're seeing it my way"
"Thanks Julius what would I do without you?"
Julius and Rine walked out and took a tour of
the planet. After that new way of thinking spread
everyone started to see the light. In fact Rine
became a heroine and a living example of the lesson
she had learned.
A new start may not always be a bad thing. From
then on the ship got used to their new home, and
eventually did get the radio fixed. But they never
made the call home due to their newfound
happiness.
the planet of Oobleck became populated overtime
and the first ship (Rine's ship) was made a
memorial to the first brave souls who started their
new lives on an unknown place.
Also in the future, Rine and Julius wed and lead
a very happy live together. They always remembered
that day Julius opened a new door for Rine, and
taught her something she never would have
imagined.
