Blast
Away
The
year 2020 has past and only now has NASA named
"Planet X" Planet Oobleck.Six brave
young souls are soon to depart to this foreign
planet with only one thing known, plastic floats in
their ocean. The day of departure draws near. Will
they make it? "Jesy! Jesy!
C'mon! We have a lot of work to do since the
men aren't pulling their work load.We don't
have time to be zoning out! Hello!Did you hear
me?"
Joany's
cold voice interrupted my warm thoughts of how I
once anticipated this dreadful journey I have
begun. Being a child still, I just had to
think of how I got into this bad predicament.
Joany, our head scientist, is separating herself
from the group as if she is oil and the captain is
water. She believes that she can fly away
from the flock and have our journey be a
success. Our captain, Kris, is the nicest guy on
this journey and Joany still holds her ground.I
fell as if Staci and I are the only ones holding it
all together. "Kris how close are we to
Oobleck?"
"Well," said
Kris, "We passed Jupiter yesterday so, I'd say
about two weeks. It's a good thing they created the
speed of compound light. It's ten times
faster than the regular speed of light."
"Speed of light? What's that?"I questioned
him, "All I ever heard of was compound
light."
"Don't worry," he said calmly as my eyes met his
with an anxious look," you're too young to know
what it is. It was thought to be the fastest
way of travel in the late 1900's and the early
2000's.
"Kris," said Kole," Nasa hired you to be our
captain.Not our head chit-chatter."
"Yeah!" said Creig, "Besides, Joany's acting
really selfishly, so instead of alternating
cleaning duties she is forcing all of it on
us. I don't think we should talk to her,
Staci, or even Jesy."
When I heard my name, my misunderstanding
cleared, like gray skies do after the rain falls,
and turned to anger as if the clouds came back as
fierce thunder clouds. "Me! Why
me?" My eyes were filled with a look that
could make anyone uncomfortable and most of the
kindness of my heart turned icy cold.
"It has nothing to do with you dear. It's
just that, well, Joany would think that you were
siding with us.It would make her even more
upset.Don't take it personally."
That was one of the last conversations I had
with the men before we reached planet
Oobleck. I felt like an undiscovered island
because I was so isolated.
"Alright girlies gather at the least one week's
worth of clothes and all the food you can fit in
your pod bag," said Joany.
"Um, Joany,"
"Yes Staci."
"What's going to happen if something goes
wrong?"Staci eyes had a pale look painted across
them, "Like if we crash."
"Okay are we ready?" Joany said as if she
didn't hear Staci.
"Everyone in their seats" shouted Kris, "cause
if you aren't we can't land."
My entire career at NASA flashed in front of
me.I thought of how long I have waited for this
moment and how hard I worked to get here.
Just then the worst sound an astronaut could hear
sounded.Something on the ship broke.<![if

"Kris! What was that?Are you
alright?" Joany actually sounded as if she
cared.
"Yeah, I'm fine but we have a sector L.C.
shutdown."
"What?" said everyone in unison.
"One of our landing gears has sprung a leak, If
we don't fix it soon we might sink!"
Kris' warm look he always had on was gone and panic
ran through his veins.
"Everyone listen," said Joany, "here's our
plan.Kris, you hold the wheel. We have to stay out
of full landing mode.Kole, you open the sector to
the emergency spare parts,Jesy and Creg, come with
me to switch the parts. Lastly Staci contract
NASA tell them what's happening."
While I ran to the emergency
spare parts sector I realized two things, Joany
does have a caring leadership side and if I don't
calm down I think my heart will beat out of my
chest. Finally we got to the part that we
needed and took it to the broken landing gear.Sure
enough under the broken piece we found a large
boulder. We switched the pieces in no time
and we successfully landed our ship. This journey I
completed taught me many life lessons among them
don't park on rocks but really, it taught me that
teamwork is the best thing one could ever
have. So when you're stuck in bad times just
think about how we had to Blast Away.
