Students are inspired to develop their Ke Kino (body), Ka Mana‘o (mind), Ka ‘Uhane (spirit) and develop an understanding of their responsibility to Ka Honua (the world) in which they live in accordance with the wishes of our Founder Ke Ali‘i Bernice Pauahi Bishop.

Ka Ulu Aloha -- "To Inspire with Love" is the educational philosophy of our Middle school.

Students are placed into teams or pū‘ulu. Each pū‘ulu is named after a culturally significant tree that is associated with a Hawaiian value. It is our hope that students take on the symbolic qualities and the value of its pū‘ulu.

7th Grade Pū‘ulu --

Pū‘ulu Koa

The koa symbolized integrity. The Hawaiian value associated with the koa is hō‘ihi or respect. We envision a community of respectful learners who develop into people of integrity.

Pū‘ulu ‘Ohe

The ‘ohe symbolizes flexibility. The Hawaiian value associated with the ‘ohe is ha‘aha‘a (humility). We envision a community of flexible learners who develop into humble people.

Pū‘ulu Lehua

The lehua symbolizes resilience. The Hawaiian value associated with the lehua is ho‘omau or perseverence. We envision a community of resilient learners who persevere in all situations.

8th Grade Pū‘ulu --

Pū‘ulu Kukui

The kukui symbolizes the light of wisdom. The Hawaiian value associated with the kukui is na‘auao of wisdom. We envision a community of confident learners who apply their knowlege and make wise choices in their life.

Pū‘ulu Lama

The lama reflects caring for one another. The Hawaiian value associated with the lama is mālama (to care for one another, preserve, and protect). We envision a community of caring learners who receive and give guidance.

Pū‘ulu Kauila

The kauila represents the light of excellence. The Hawaiian value associated with kauila is po‘okela (excellence). We envision a community of learners that seek excellence in all endeavors.
