Instructional Procedure with Approximate Time Line
1. Anticipatory Set (5 minutes)
Movement creates the look and feeling of action. Visual movement is used by artists to direct viewers through their work, often to the focal areas. Such movement can be directed along lines, edges, shapes, and colors within the works, but moves the eye most easily on paths of equal value.
Elongated shapes cause our eyes to move along them. If there is a strong center of interest, our eyes will be drawn to it like a magnet. Linear movement can be both direct (straight) or irregular (curvilinear). Our eyes follow lines and edges in sculpture, architecture, and paintings, as well as in nature.
2. Activities (35 minutes)
All activities should be done on separate sketchbook pages, not back to back.
3. Assessment
0 points = Activity incorrect or not found. Activity is not completed or no title.
5 points = Activity partly correct. Improve and turn in again.
10 points = Activity correct. Student demonstrates an understanding of the concept.
