RUNNING PROGRAM

The “running program” at the middle school is considered an integral part of physical education. The students are required to run prior to every class period as part of their warm-up. They are advised to stretch lightly prior to running, to stretch again after running, and to stretch before any strenuous activity.
They are tested once each week with a timed run. They are encouraged to improve their “PR’s” (personal records), each time they run through a system of positive and negative points. Those that do not meet the minimum requirement are asked to come back and run again during 8th period Study Help until they are able to better their times.
The intent of the running program is to prepare the students for the high school running program by increasing their physical and mental strength. It is also intended to help them realize that their potential as yet has not been fully met.

GRADING PROCEDURES

Students must complete two 6-week units per trimester to earn a passing grade for that trimester. Trimester grades will be an average of the two 6-week units.
If, for any reason of illness or other medical reason, a student misses three weeks for a six-week session and the instructor cannot justify a grade for the student, the student will receive an incomplete for that session. The student then has two weeks to arrange with the instructor to make up the missed time. If the time is “made up” a grade will be recorded for the session.
