The Battle of Pea Ridge, or Elkhorn Tavern took place from March 7-8 1862. Although a relatively small battle compared to the battle of Gettysburg this battle has much to say for itself. Elkhorn Tavern is located in Arkansas, and in that area there is a small tavern located near Huntsville Road. It was here that most of the fighting took place. During those two days of fighting both sides had countless injured, missing and dead. This battle that the Union had won seized all of Alabama and gave the Union a full strike zone in the south. From Pea Ridge the Northerners could easily take Missouri and take control of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers.
