The Battle of Fair Oaks consisted of two main Generals. On the Confederate side there was General Johnston and on the Union side there was General McClellan. The Union side had split into two groups. They thought that having two groups would help their strategy of attacking the Confederates. However, the Confederates found the division as an advantage for a surprise attack. Well, the Confederates did plan an attack, but it was disorganized and unsuccessful. Their men arrived late, the soldiers were tired, and the generals were angry. The Confederates, however, did manage to attack and hurt one of the two groups from the Union. The Union was strong enough to all come together in the end and fight. So, instead of staying in two groups, the Union merged to protect their dignity, pride, and their life against their enemies, the Confederates. Both sides lost a number of men, but it was the Confederates who suffered more deaths.
