Battle of Antietam
Scientist Page

The Battle of Antietam was fought on September 17, 1862. The temperature was in the high sixties to the low seventies. The weather was cool and the sun was out. The average rainfall is about three inches, so it might have rained some. The temperature is similar to what the temperature would be in September today. The rainfall is about 4 inches now, and the weather is still kind of cool.

Topographic Map

This is a topographic map of the Antietam battlefield. The black arrow shows the movement of the Union army. The red arrow shows the movement of Confederate forces. The Confederates had to cross the mighty Potomac River to get to the battlefield.

Union Rocket

The Union Rocket is a rocket that the Union army used during the Civil War. The troops used the Union rocket, as well as the Hales Rocket, because of its tremedously good aim. Eventually, more accurate rifles eventually demolished the use of the rocket, and it soon was never used during any wars thereafter.

Hales Rocket

The Hales rocket was another rocket that was used during the Civil War. Unlike the Union rocket, the Hales rocket was used by both the Confederates and the Union army.
