Brief Summary: April 12, 1861 marked the beginning of a war that would last a long, harsh five years. The Battle of Corinth was one of the many battles that had occured throughout the journey to equality. The battle had took place on October third of 1862, and had not come to an end untill the following day, October fourth. The war went down in Corinth, Mississippi. The reason being for why the war had even statrted was because the Conferates (South), lead by General Major Earl Van Dorn, wanted possesion of the entire state of Tennesse. And inorder to get to Tennessee, they would have to go through Mississippi where the Union was waiting. At that time the Union(North) was under the direction of General Major William S. Rosecran. On October third, the fighting began at promptly to 10 am. Cannons and fire arms were going off causing dirt and smoke to accumulate to form a cloud, blinding both the Union and the Confederates, still the fighting proceeded. The battle had lead long into the night and both sides agreeded upon the idea of continuing the battle the next day. As planned the battled did continue on the fourth, though not at the particular time the Confederates hoped. Due to the Generals assistance's unexpected illness, the plan was further delayed. When the fighting once began, the rules were, there were no rules. Second round had had only lasted until dusk. The Confederates eventually surrendered leaving the Union victorious. As a result of this battle, nearly 7197 lives were claimed, 2359 of them being Union solidiers, and the other 4838 of them Confederates. South
