The battle of Perryville took place on October 8, 1862 in Kentucky. It was approximately 2:00 p.m. when the battle began. It's amazing how much the geology of the area had so much to do with how the battle was fought. The weather in the area changes a lot and has a great impact on the geology of Perryville. There are many gentle rolling hills in the area as well as springs and creeks. The hills were, however sometimes a problem, and other times an advantage for the artillerists. At one time in the battle, the Union artillerists were unable to shoot because of the hill, and how steep it was. The temperatures at the time of the battle are unknown but I would predict because of the fast changing weather that the temperatures were also differential. Present day Kentucky is very similar to what it was during the battle in 1862. The weather still changes frequently and so does the temperatures.
Weapons One of the weapons used during the civil war was called a carbine. It was best described as a short, lightweight rifle or a short musket. A carbine weighed about 5 pounds or about half as much as a regular size rifle. When it came to shooting a carbine could shoot farther and more accurately than a pistol, but not as far as a rifle.
