The Battle of Champions Hill Scientist Page The Henry Repeating Rifle ![]() The Henry repeating rifle was used in the Civil War and the Wild West. The soldiers developed confidence when they used these guns because they did not have a muzzle loader. The length of the rifle is 42.5", and the weight is 6.5 lbs. This gun holds 15 rounds in a magazine beneath its 24 inch barrel. They are chambered for the .44-40 round but the .44 Henry ballistics may be duplicated by reloading. The Henry Repeating Rifle was a 216 grain bullet and 26 to 28 grains of black powder. The Henry underwent very few changes during its production. The butt plate was changed slightly and some guns do not have a lever latch. There was an iron frame Henry but most Henrys were brass frame. The sights were mounted on the frame or the barrel. This weapon helped a lot during the Civil War. This gun was probably the best gun back in the Civil War. The Henry Repeating Rifle was probably the best improvement of a rifle ever. ![]() Environmental Conditions/WeatherThe temperature during the battle of Champions Hill was around 84-86 degrees.
