This is the Beaumont- Adams revolver. This revolver was a five shot revolver and it was self-cocking. It was designed by Robert Adams, who was an Englishman. When the weapon was first created, Robert Adams was manager for the London house of George & John Deane, which was a well respected company in the trade. The idea which brought Adam's invention into the light was the Exhibition of 1851. On August 22,1851, Robert Adams earned an English Patent for his revolver. The early models of the revolver lacked a few things which made the design unpopular. It had no recoil shield behind the cylinder and it also lacked a hammer. It was also missing a hammer spur which meant that it couldn't be hand cocked. Lt. Frederick Beaumont improved that by making a trigger-hammer linkage which gave the Adams the capability of single action and self-cocking fire.
This is the map of the third day of the battle. If the confederate army had won at this point they would have been able to go straight to Washington, D.C. Meade took the high ground in order to mount a strong defense against Lee. In the end they succeeded. |
