Battle of Spotsylvania
Song Page

In the Civil War

Tune of Polly Wolly Doodle

Lincoln hired Grant to fight for us

In the Civil War

Not a person was making a fuss

In the Civil War

Not Lee, Not Grant

Infact Grant was pretty happy

Because the Union was winning and the Confederate was losing

In the Civil War

There was a battle in Spotsylvania

In the Civil War

It was in Virginia

In the Civil War

Not in Washington, Not in Maine

Because they were moving South

And the Union circled Lee and said "Watch Out"

In the Civil War

There was a lot of bloodshed

In the Civil War

Especially in Spotsylvania

In the Civil War

But we fought, and we fought

And we fought for freedom

Soon they moved out of Spotsylvania

In the Civil War

The battle ended on May 24

In the Civil War

But it's still fought right now

Because it's the Civil War

It shall never ever end

Because it's the Civil War!
