Summary of Fort McAllister Who: The north decided to attack the south to test out their ammunition. The leader for the confederates is Captain George A. Anderson and the leader for the union was Captain P. Drayton. Not much is known about these leaders but another important figure in the Battle of Fort McAllister was Admiral Du Pont.
When: March 3, 183 (first battle) Where: Bryan Country, Georgia (near Savannah) Why: We fought because the Union wanted to test their ammunition and bring down the south's Fort McAllister How (who won): The confederates won because of the Union's failed attempt to bring Fort McAllister down. It proved that even three-gun battery ironclad couldn't bring down this durable fort.
