Wauke is also known as the paper plant. Wauke was introduced by Polynesia. It is used to make kapa. Wauke grows/planted in suitable soil and moisture. Wauke is propogated from shoots that come from its roots. The fibers of the wauke’s bark were used to make kökö (carrying nets).

‘ölelo no‘eau: Eia ‘i‘o no ke kolo mai nei ke a‘a o ka wauke. – Truly now, the root of the wauke creeps.
