INTRODUCTION:

Have you ever had a sore throat and found that you cannot talk? Well, in “The Coconut Whistle” a young boy could not talk for his whole life! Can you imagine that! Just the thought of not having a voice is just horrible! Imagine not being able to speak your mind or say things that pop into your head.

This young boy of O‘ahu had a problem; he could not share all of his jolly jokes and fun. Everyday of his life he grew even sadder because he couldn’t talk. Very often his heart was heavy and all of his family members noticed. If the young boy will ever talk he will need the magical coconut whistle. Some would say that the magical coconut whistle could speak your mind and some even said that it made the most beautiful sounds on the whole entire planet, but all the people knew that whatever the coconut whistle could do it was the boys only chance of talking in his whole life.

The boy’s grandmother had some magical powers and she knew exactly what to do to get the sacred coconut whistle. But she didn’t want to help him just yet. She wanted him to learn an important life lesson and grow up to be very humble. Even his grandfather knew that his grandson needed the coconut whistle to speak, but he could not do anything because he did not have magical powers like his wife.
